Invitaional Information

Here is some important information you will need for invitationals this weekend.

* We will begin the competition at 9:00 AM Saturday December 3rd at the UCCU Center (formerly known as the McKay Events Center) at UVU. The address is 800 W. University Ave. Estimated time of finishing is 6:30PM, with drill down and awards to follow. Doors will open to the public at 8:30 AM.

* The doors will open at 6:30 AM-for teams only, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ENTER UNTIL THEN. Your team will enter from the north side of the UCCU Center.

*No teams will be allowed to enter through spectator entrance. No spectators will be allowed through the team entrance. The spectators’ entrance is the ticket booth entrance located on the west side of the UCCU Center. No one will be allowed entrance on the second level of the UCCU Center.

* PARKING & TICKET PRICES: Please park only in the designated parking spaces. Ticket prices: Adults $8.00 each, Kids 5 and younger are free of charge. The parking fee of $1 is included in the spectator price. Please notify your parents.
Parents can purchase tickets at the ticket box office and enter the arena 30min. prior to the competition start time.

*Beginning at 7:45 AM, all shoes may be checked in at the penalty judge area located on the north side of the basketball court/performance area this will be done by our technical judges. Please try to have this done ASAP!! If a team scratches or damages the floor surface in anyway they will be responsible for the cost to repair the floor and all matters will be handled through the UCCU Center.

* Floor practice time will be first come first serve. They will start at 6:10 AM and finish at 7:45 AM. 1A/2A & 5A will face WEST and 3A/4A will face EAST, each team will only receive 4 minutes. In order to get a floor practice time you will need to have a representative from your team sign up with the UVU Dance Team member on the performance floor. We will then call your team to practice on the floor. We will be facing both directions, so make sure your team faces the sign that applies to your UHSAA classification. We will be having you face the appropriate way you will be facing at the State competition. Your parents and supporters should sit on the side that is under the appropriate classification sign.

* No team members may sit in the spectator area. The seats on the south side of the arena will be reserved for team members. Because of UCCU Center fire code rules, blankets, bags, etc. you will not be allowed to sit on the east and west sides of the arena (ANY YELLOW SEATS). Please keep your areas tidy and able to navigate through. Please do not allow team members to place blankets on the seats for their parents. It becomes a real problem when those who come to watch cannot find a place to sit. In addition it is offensive to some spectators when the dancers are dressing in front of everyone. Thank you for your help with this.

* PRACTICE: There will be a practice room available in the North Presidential Suite for practicing prior to you competing your routine. This will be monitored by a UVU Dance Team member. You are required to provide your own sound system. BE POLITE AND RESPECTFUL OF OTHER TEAMS.

* Each team will be provided an area in the WEST TUNNEL, NORTH AND SOUTH END OF THE LOWER CONCOURSE for costume changes, your schools name will be posted on the wall above your designated space. These are not secure areas, so do not leave possessions unattended. Mirrors and plugs will be limited so please come prepared. Do not leave curling irons on and unattended at any time. Remember that this is just a curtain area as well as a walkway, so please dress in the dressing rooms and do not leave any valuables unattended. There are two restrooms in the west tunnel for use by drill team members. The costume storage area will consist of pipe and drape with chairs inside of the area.

* ALL TEAMS MUST ENTER & EXIT FROM THE NORTH END OF THE FLOOR. This is how it will be done at the State Level so please come prepared for your teams to do this. A floor judge will check the following at this area: jewelry, fingernails, etc.

* The main floor sound system will be ready when you arrive. Please try to check your music early and quickly (quickly means 5 seconds per CD-long enough to set volume and speed). You will not be allowed to listen to the complete routine. Our music personnel will have instructions to this effect. If 8:45 AM arrives and some teams have not finished checking music, we must stop to begin the competition. This process will be done on a “first come first serve” basis. Thank you for your cooperation.

Concessions on Friday, Dec 2nd?

Hi parents! We have been offered to run the Concessions at the Boy's Basketball game on Friday, December 2nd - the same day as the UVU solo competition. Are there any parents who would be interested in heading this up for us? I think it would be a great fundraiser. If not, then we will decline the offer. Take a look at your schedules and let me know!

WASPETTE of the Week

This weeks WOW is none other than the team captain herself Linnea!
She is a lover of Cafe Rio and Swedish Fish

You may not know this about Linea but she not quite five feet tall.  In her tiny little body is an extreme love of dancing.  When asked what she  enjoys most about being a Waspette she enthusiastically replied, "THE  GIRLS! I LOVE THE GIRLS!" A perfect reply for the leader of the team. Here she is leading the team in a mid practice cheer.

You can find linea rockin out to Party rock anthem, and if she had to pick a style of dance it would be Hip Hop.  Someday Linea hopes to travel to Paris France.  Before traveling, she wants to go to college to become a nurse, then serve a mission.

When asked about something that is unique about her she giggled and said, "The thought of having a baby terrifies me."

She is a great leader and is 100% dedicated to the team. She represents the team with maturity, class, and intelligence. She is exactly the leader that this team needs, and she does a fantastic job! Thank you, Linnea!
